In a world filled with viral ‘gram posts bursting with filter-altered photos and the latest challenges, sometimes it’s easy to get distracted from what’s really important – securing your future. But your future isn’t on social media, in fact the work needed to reach your future and your dreams must be done outside of social. This post is dedicated to outlining the top 3 tips to keep in mind while you break down barriers and reach your dreams.
Number One – Stop Procrastinating and Just Do It.
How many times have you said to yourself, “I’ll get it done right after I finish this episode.” Or “I’m just going to check my twitter real quick, then I’ll get started.” How many times has 5 minutes turned into 2 hours of wasted effort? Probably too many times to count. That’s why the number one piece of advice for fulfilling your dreams is stop procrastinating and just do it.
Put down the social, walk away from the distractions, and start putting in the work needed to make your dreams a reality.
Number Two – Don’t Just Show Up, Be Present
Have you ever showed up to the gym, not really wanting to be there, and told yourself I’m just going to put in a good 20 minutes then I’ll be done. If 5 days out of 7, this is your mindset, how do you expect to get that ‘summer-time fine’ body you’ve been wanting? The same goes for any dream you’re pursing. Whether it’s wanting to make the starting line-up of your basketball team or finishing top of your class.
It’s not just enough to show-up, it’s important to be present as well. Being present means that you’re giving your all to whatever task is in front you. It means not splitting your attention between the task at hand and things that may take place later on in the day. It means truly plugging in.
Number Three – Growth Comes Only When You’re Uncomfortable
Lastly, the only way to get to the next level in whatever it is that you’re doing is by growing. Growth only occurs when you’re uncomfortable. Think about it. Any growth spurt you’ve ever had or witnessed occurred awkwardly and was often accompanied by a little pain. That means that if your dream is worth having, there should be some moments when you feel a little uncomfortable.
This could mean that you might have to get up in front of people and speak, although public speaking frightens you to death. In LeBron James’ debut game he froze – so much so that they made commercials about it. So whatever your moment of growth is, embrace it and endure because remember that at the end of the growth there’s immeasurable potential and the possibility that you might become the G.O.A.T. in whatever it is that you’re pursuing.
In closing, know that you are important, your dreams matter, and whatever your purpose in life may be – stop procrastinating and just do it, don’t just show up be present, and know that growth comes only when you’re uncomfortable.
“Dreams without goals will remain dreams and ultimately fuel disappointment.” ~ Denzel Washington.
