Summer State of Mind

Its Summer time and that usually means lazy days, pool parties, and cook-outs. Many students don’t know that the Summer time is also a great time to begin preparing for the next academic year. In fact, many colleges and universities open their application for the Fall 2020 freshman class July 1st.

Not only should our new High School Seniors begin to think about where they might want to attend college, but they should also be considering how they plan to pay for college. Below are a few tips we give to all of our students to help them get a head start on the upcoming school year.

1) Plan to tour and visit at least 3 different colleges or universities. It’s not enough just to see videos of whatever college you may want to go to, it’s important that you visit the campus as well. See whether or not you vibe with culture and atmosphere of the college.

2) Apply to Scholarships now! We can NOT stress this one enough. Now is the time to begin searching for and applying to scholarships. We challenge each our students to apply to at least one scholarship a week. With sites like fastweb.com, ucango2.org, and occf.org, there’s no reason for our students not to.

3) Lastly, find a community service project that speaks to your passion and volunteer. Don’t just wait until the Holiday season to try and volunteer. Begin now, and try to volunteer at least 1 or 2 hours a week (Saturdays are always free!). Pursue your passion, transform yourself into a servant leader, and watch your resume grow!

We love summer days and summer rays, not only is it a time to relax, it’s to time reset and prepare for the year that’s to come!
